A Fresh Coat of Paint to Brighten Things Up

I'm the girl who buys a car because of it's color or seat coverings.
I will often spend the extra money at Anthropologie (my FAVORITE!) because of the way they decorate their front window displays and how they package my purchases.
I love monograms.
I serve my family chips out of bowls, rather than bags and I am committed to the cleanliness and order of my household.
In short, I am visual to a fault.

Those close to me know this to be true.  I'm sort of a aesthetic freak.
I am passionate about creating spaces that are visually pleasing and I am not afraid of change.

You can imagine my annoyance recently as I walked into my laundry room and saw this:
Messy-mess and drab.

Blechh!!

I had painted the entire house this golden color when we bought the house and four years later, I was ready for change!

I reasoned that as long as I had to do laundry, my environment should at least have a color facelift.  Reasonable, don't you think?

I picked a light robin's egg blue color (Behr Premium Plus Clear Pond in Eggshell finish) and got started painting.

From the first paint strokes, I could feel myself brimming with excitement over the possibilities of a bleached load set on Whitest Whites.

No, I didn't...
but I DID like the color!

Success!
I completed the room and noticed another eyesore... the standard builder's fluorescent light fixture.

Pleh.  That needed to come down.  It didn't fit with my fresh-faced blue hue.

I found a lighting fixture I loved at Home Depot (the same one I had Gregg install in my bedroom closet in January) and brought it home.  My home design projects almost always come with at least one or two items to add to Gregg's "Honey-Do" list.  This one was no exception.

I'm very lucky that this kind-hearted, generous man loves me.

Once the new lighting fixture was up, I found myself looking at the ceiling in admiration and explained to Gregg that crown moulding around the ceiling would be SUCH a nice touch.  Another trip to Home Depot for Gregg and several hours of work later, viola!

We replaced the white blinds with a plantation shutter and called it a wrap!

Loving this brightened work space and my husband who supports my designing whims!

Love, live, and create intentionally,

Kristi

  1. Kristi - I can't wait to have you redo my laundry room! It's so not the most important room in the house - yet we walk through it EVERY SINGLE TIME we leave and return. I look forward to having you change it from my I'm-so-tired-of-it yellow. :)
