I Might Be in Love With Metallic Glaze

While working on some projects at my friend Lisa's house, she showed me a small table in her dining room that another friend had given her.  The table proudly displayed a beautiful piece of framed artwork. It had the sweetest spindly legs and great "bones", but was a bit wobbly and a small chunk of wood was missing from the top.  One of the pieces of decorative wood across the top had come loose, as well.

I asked her if I could take it home and see if my husband Gregg could tighten the table's legs and consider reattaching the wood trim. Of course, my mind was overflowing with possibilities, even as I was tucking the piece into the back of my car to head home.

Gregg easily remedied the table structurally before I called Lisa to see how she felt about me painting the table. I'm so lucky to have such a trusting friend!  She told me to do whatever I wanted (bliss!) so I headed to Home Depot for inspiration!

After filling in the area of missing wood with a wood filler, I began painting...

I started with 2 coats of an off-white (Behr Premium Plus paint and primer in one).
Afterwards, I used a gritty sanding block to rub down protruding edges.

I really liked where the finish was going, but was eager to try a product I had found called Martha Stewart Living: Metallic Glaze Specialty Finish.  I chose Black Coffee 356-333.

I sparingly brushed on the glaze and wiped it off with a cloth, allowing it to collect in the creases and nooks of the table.  I loved the depth it gave to the piece!  Here is how it looks all finished:

I am in love with this finished table and hope that Lisa will like it, too!  I can't wait to see it in her dining room, as a polished perch for her artwork!

Grateful for this experience and your trust in my vision, Lisa!

Love, live and create intentionally,

Kristi
